Flanders Moss

Flanders Moss is a raised bog area between Thornhill in the north and in the south tilt in the Carse of Stirling in central Scotland.

History

While it was only passable on boardwalks, the drainage of the country by the lawyer and historian Henry Home Kames was very encouraged during the 18th century, but an essential part survived this development.

Flanders Moss is the largest remaining in a predominantly natural state high moorland in the UK. Scottish Natural Heritage in 1995 acquired rights to the site, and it was designated as a National Nature Reserve.
