Flat spline

A Straklatte is an elastic bar of wood or plastic. It is mainly used in shipbuilding in the design, construction and splitting up. The lengths range accordingly from a few decimeters in laths for the drawing board to over ten meters when splitting up and construction. With their help, harmonious lines (ie dents or flat spots ) are characterized without sudden changes in the radius of curvature, or to identify those unwanted places during construction. With wooden slats to the use knotless wood with uniform fiber orientation is important. Scarf joints should be avoided if possible, otherwise they must be carried out very long.

The slats are held and shaped by Strakgewichte ( pigs ) or nails, which are hammered next to the bar.

Today, special computer programs are capable of calculating strakende lines so that traditional splines are no longer needed in the construction. Next, it is possible auszuplotten the finished line crack on distortion -free film; in this case also eliminates the work on the gridiron. During the construction of boats and yachts, however the Straklatte is still an important tool to monitor the course of the lines.
