Flatpicking

Flatpicking is a technique on the guitar and it is the play on the guitar with a pick. This way of playing has evolved in the United States of America in the first half of the twentieth century.

Origin

The term goes back to an American name of the plectrum ( " Flatpick ").

Method

The term " Flatpicking " means initially just playing the guitar with a plectrum. However, among them is also a technique understood that to play the melody comprises the pure accompanying game all conceivable ways of playing. When Flatpicking fast melodies can rapidly and dynamically pass into chord playing. When playing chords melody patterns can be woven into the game in addition to the chords. This possibility is used by better players, to highlight the chords with bass figures, or - to take up the vocal melody - in song accompaniment.

Limits of this style

A disadvantage of Flatpicking is the fact that it excludes the transition to Fingerstyle during the game, because of the need for plucking the bass strings thumb of the right hand is used when Flatpicking holding the plectrum.

Possible syntheses

The combination of flatpicking and fingerstyle represents the hybrid picking
