Flaurling

Flaurling is a municipality with 1221 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Innsbruck Land in Tirol ( Austria ). The municipality is located in the judicial district Telfs.

Geography

Flaurling is located in the Inn valley, between Innsbruck and Telfs, south of the Inn River, at the confluence of Kanzingbachs. The municipality consists of the villages Flaurling Village, Flaurling Station, a commercial area and Flaurling - mountain at the western foot of a low mountain range.

The Flaurlinger Alm is the starting point for hikes in the mountains. Flaurling is accessible via the Inn valley motorway and the Arlberg railway.

History

Oldest settlement traces can be found from the period around 100 BC on the wooded hill " High Birga ".

Flaurling was first documented as " Flurininga " in the year 763 during the late Middle Ages, it was the parish location for the surrounding towns between Zirl and Telfs.

The Ris - building, originally a hunting lodge, has existed since the 15th century. It commemorates the pastor Sigmund Ris (1431-1532), who founded a still existing library here.

Flaurling is an independent municipality since 1816.

Gerhard Poscher was elected mayor. He was the only candidate.
