Flavorist

Flavorist referred to a professional image in the food and flavor industry. A Flavorist deals with the development of new flavors for food after natural models. These flavors may be composed of natural and / or synthetic ingredients.

A precondition is usually a degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Food Science. In principle this is not necessary. Furthermore, detailed knowledge of the human sense of smell and taste are necessary. In the German -speaking world there is no specialized training for flavourists. In the French Versailles there is a two-year post -graduate course at the Institut supérieur international du parfum de la cosmétique et de l' aromatique alimentaire.

As organizations of flavourists exist in the U.S., the Society of Flavor Chemists and the United Kingdom, the British Society of Flavour ISTS.
