Flaxweiler

Flaxweiler ( Luxembourgish Fluessweller ) is a municipality in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, in the canton Grevenmacher. It lies in the east of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, east of the capital city of Luxembourg. The name refers to the flax crop that was once grown there.

The municipality is composed of five villages: Flaxweiler, Gostingen, Oberdonven, Niederdonven and Beyren.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of the village dates from 18 October 1985. The lion is derived from the coat of arms of the family of Soleuvre ( black lion on a silver field). The key is derived from the arms of the provosts Grevenmacher (Coat of Arms of Luxembourg with additional keys). The main colors, gold and red are derived from the coat of arms of Meysembourg family.
