Fleming County, Kentucky
Fleming County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Flemingsburg. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.
Geography
The County is located in northeastern Kentucky, is located in the north about 30 miles from Ohio and has an area of 910 square kilometers, of which two square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Mason County, Lewis County, Rowan County, Bath County, Nicholas County and Robertson County.
History
Fleming County was formed on February 10, 1798 from parts of Mason County. It was named after Colonel John Fleming, an early settler in the area.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Fleming County 13,792 people in 5,367 households and 3,966 families. The population density was 15 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 97.33 percent White, 1.41 percent African American, 0.14 percent Native American, 0.17 percent Asian, and 0.28 percent from other races; 0.67 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.75 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 5,367 households out of which 34.8 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 60.3 percent were married couples living together, 9.6 percent were single mothers, 26.1 percent were non-families, 23.3 percent of all households and 11.0 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 2.99.
Based on the county the population was spread from 25.4 percent population under 18 years, 8.4 percent between 18 and 24 years, 29.0 percent between 25 and 44 years, 23.9 percent between 45 and 64 years and 13.4 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 96.0 males. For every 100 females aged 18 years old or over, there were 93.2 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 27,990, and the median income for a family was $ 33,300. Males have a median income of $ 26,463, women $ 19,895. The per capita income was $ 14,214. 14.8 percent of families and 18.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 24.9 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 20.1 percent of those 65 years.
