Flemish bend

The Flemish -eight knot is used for extra secure connection of two ropes. He is just created like a plugged -eight knot, which acts as a fixed loop.

Name and history

The name derives from its shape, which looks like an eight (8). Other nodes with similar form have similar and partly overlapping names; provides an overview Endacht.

Application

The Flemish Eight node serves as a very secure connection of two ropes.

A high knot strength is achieved. A rope sling ( " endless loop " ) woven from 10.5 mm rope with roller loop results in a knot strength of 116 percent for the entire loop; with a figure eight knot in the form of drops of a 119 per cent. The same with a Cord of 7 mm thickness results in a strength of more than 144 percent with eight loop, and of more than 146 percent with eight knot in the form of drops, respectively, for the entire loop.

Tie

Plugged Flemish eight knot

The ambitious Flemish Eight node begins with a loose Endacht at the end of a rope. With the end of the second rope, follow the node profile ( now backward) exactly.

Double overhand knot in the form of drops

The double overhand knot in drop form is linked with two parallel taken rope ends as a Endacht.

Alternatives

  • As a permanent connection of two ropes suitable the Long splicing or Kurzspleiß.
  • As a permanent bond of wet or slippery ropes and fishing lines suitable the fisherman's knot.
  • When undue strain is better suited to the Zeppelinstek because it is easier to solve.
  • In the maritime sector, Schotstek is used to connect unequal and equal thick ropes.
  • With a large difference between the two rope diameters a Double Schotstek is.
  • To connect thicker ropes suitable the Trossenstek.
  • When climbing a Double fisherman's knot a blind stitch with two parallel taken rope ends was formerly used today often (taking advantage of tape loops usually called sling knot, but which should not be used ).

Modifications

  • If the knot is tied with double rope, it forms a particularly secure loop and is called figure-eight knot with a loop.
  • Just simply attached his name Endacht and serves as a stopper knot for thickening at the end of a rope.
