Flers (Somme)

Flers ( Picard: Fler ) is a commune with 174 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region of northern France. The municipality belongs to the canton Combles and is part of the Communauté de communes du canton de Combles.

Geography

The community is located about 8 km northwest of Combles and 8 km south of Bapaume on the D197 road department.

History

In Flers tanks came in the First World War during the Battle of the Somme in the Battle of Flers- Courcelette was first used (1916). The municipality received the Croix de guerre as a distinction from 1914 to 1918.
