Fleurance

Fleurance is a commune with 6292 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Gers, in the Midi -Pyrénées; it belongs to the district of Condom and is capital of the canton Fleurance.

Geography

The medieval town was founded as a Bastide is located in the heart of Armagnac in the former province of Gascony. The name Fleurance is a reference to the Italian city of Florence. There are in the region more such allusions, such as Geaune (Genoa ), Pavie (Pavia ) and Plaisance ( Piacenza).

Neighboring communities of Fleurance are Castelnau- d'Arbieu in the north, Urdens in the northeast, Brugnens in the east, and Céran Lalanne in the southeast, Montestruc -sur -Gers in the south, and Préchac Réjaumont the southwest, Sainte -Radegonde in the west and in the north Pauilhac.
