Flexible intermediate bulk container

A big bag is (English for large bag) a flexible bulk container. The internationally accepted abbreviation is FIBC and is an abbreviation for Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container (English for flexible medium container for bulk goods ).

It was developed by the company Bigbag Gustav Grolman GmbH & Co. KG, a distributor of specialty chemicals from Dusseldorf. The name fame in 1978 in the form Grolman BIG BAG trademark protection; this was extinguished in 2007.

A big bag holds about 1000 to 1300 liters. It consists of a stable plastic fabric and can be filled again after emptying and optionally purifying, thus is reusable. Towards the open side more stable loops are sewn, in which the container can be lifted for the purpose of filling, transport and discharge. But there are also big bags with top apron for closing or with sewn on filling or discharge spout available. The fabric used is made to ensure leakage and moisture protection mostly from polypropylene, is in part with an inner coating provided or lined using the foil liner. A great big bag fills from the surface of a Euro pallet and is filled up to about 1.5 meters.

For some bulk materials due to their properties, the dust-free and metered emptying of big bags causes problems. For these cases, special BigBag metering devices have been developed.

Big bags are often used in the disposal technology for lighter waste such as paper and fabric scraps, but also for the construction of cofferdams. You will also find as a cheap transport and disposal containers for waste materials (eg fly ash ) in underground storage use. Even as the product packaging of bulk materials such as wood pellets, almonds, cocoa beans, plastic pellets, or the transport of construction materials (sand, gravel, crushed stone, pavers, etc.) and seeds ( corn, cereals, potatoes) big bags are increasingly used.

When floods big bags filled with sand are dropped from helicopters to secure leaks in dikes.

Bigbags the safety specifications of the Equipment and Product Safety Act (GPSG ) must meet. The importer will also be responsible for compliance.

To open big bags for example pyramid knife can be used.
