Flexor digitorum longus muscle

End links all supporting toes (animals)

The flexor digitorum longus (Latin for " long toe flexors ") is a skeletal muscle and one of the toe flexor muscles of the lower leg. The muscle ends first in a single tendon that divides only in the sole of the foot in four terminal tendons.

In the animals of the muscle is called the flexor digitorum medialis. Its tendon connects to those of the other heads of the deep digital flexor ( flexor digitorum lateralis and tibialis caudalis ) to the deep flexor tendon. This is divided according to the number of the supporting toes again into as many legs, and inserted at the end link.

Function

The flexor digitorum longus flexes the outer four toes down, he is also involved in plantar flexion ( bending down) of the foot.

In animals, the " plantar " of the ankle stretching corresponds to the same.
