Flick of the Switch

Occupation

Flick of the Switch (English for "the button " ) is the eighth studio album by the internationally published Australian hard rock band AC / DC. It was in April 1983, shortly after their European tour, added. The album was released on August 15, 1983 in the U.S. market. In 2003 it was re-released as part of the AC / DC remasters series.

Background

Flick of the switch was in the Bahamas at the same studio as AC / DC 's Back in Black album success three years earlier. For the first time the band produced their album themselves, without outside support. During the recording of the album, the drummer Phil Rudd left the band due to personal problems with Malcolm Young. At this time, however, he had his individually recorded drum parts already fully recorded, so that the publication could take place as planned. Rudd was replaced by Simon Wright, who was already visible in the produced music videos for this album Flick of the Switch and Nervous Shakedown.

Tour

Although the album was not particularly successful, there were two AC / DC concert tours at this time. The Flick of the Switch Tour began on October 11, 1983 in Canada and led the band across the United States. The last concert completed AC / DC on December 19, 1983 at Madison Square Garden. This tour included more than 50 appearances in just under two months. The Monsters of Rock tour followed from 11 August 1984 twelve other performances, which included a slightly different setlist compared to the first tour.

It reached number 15 in the U.S. and received for over one million copies sold a platinum award. In the UK there were only gold, where the album was at number 4. In Germany it came to number 6 in the other German-speaking areas of Austria and Switzerland, placed on 9 and 28

When publishing the album in Rock Hard magazine by Uwe Lerch was only given a 4.5 rating out of 10 possible points. In a later review in selfsame Magazine Götz Kühnemund showed far more impressed and awarded 9 points. To this end, he judged, " is undervalued unforgivable this disc, which was at that time acted even as a flop. Although Flick of the switch actually does not reach the really big feats of the band, but weak songs you will not find here anyway. On the contrary: Rising Power This House Is on Fire, Guns for Hire, Bedlam in Belgium or Badlands are one of the undiscovered pearl in the fundus of the band. Only the production, which was in the hands of the band itself, can not compete with the monster sound of the three predecessor ( Mutt Lange). "
