Flight Information Display System

A Flight Information Display System ( FIDS ) is a real- timely software system that serves the airport to provide all clients with live flight data and to update beyond event-driven. A client can be in this context, a monitor in the audience or staff area, a sheet or LCD panel, any Internet / Intranet client or theoretically any other technical device for flight data display. A FIDS is normally designed generically, so that the effort to connect new display keeps clients in borders and typically limited to the protocol-specific peculiarities.

The flight data changes ( changes in status, gate, Belt and counter assignments, Estimated Time, etc.) which processes a FIDS, any source and / or cause may have. They can be entered directly by an operator, but just as well be generated automatically by the system (due to different time parameters). Also, connections to external systems ( CUTE, SITA etc.) can cause state changes and are processed accordingly by the FIDS.

In the data-side center of a FIDS is the current flight, which uniquely identified by type (A / D), Scheduled Time ( STM) and flight number is identified. A sophisticated system also considers code-share flights and rotation links. From Code sharing is when several flight numbers refer to a physical flight (eg LH 765 and UA 621 JFK to be settled via a Lufthansa plane ). A rotation is the combination of arrival and departure of a flight number which refer to the same physical machine ( Aircraft). ( An Airbus A321 of Lufthansa LH301 comes as from Hamburg to gate A13 and flies 45 minutes later than LH302 back to Hamburg.)

A sophisticated FIDS allows airports, airlines, aircraft types, Flugstati and resources such as gates, counters and baggage belts, Parking Stands dynamically adapt. A central part in the functionality of the system is the continuous status monitoring of connected display peripherals (Public monitors, Anzeigetafelns etc.). Irregularities are logged by the system. Modern systems also send E-Mails/SMS to the system administrator and make it possible for example, the system by mobile phone to control.
