Flin Flon Bombers

The Flin Flon Bombers are a Canadian ice hockey team from Flin Flon, Manitoba, which is playing in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. The team played from 1967 to 1978 in one of the three highest Canadian Junior Hockey League, the Western Hockey League ( WHL).

History

The Flin Flon Bombers, who were founded in 1927, played from 1951 to 1966 in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, the championship they won six times in this period (1952, 1953, 1954, 1956, 1957, 1960). In addition, the team placed 1957 in the final tournament for the Memorial Cup against the Ottawa Junior Canadiens. For the 1966/67 season, the Bombers were transferred to the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, the championship they won this year also. Then Flin Flon in the year before which was founded as Canadian expansion franchise top junior Western Hockey League was taken. Equal in their first season in the WHL, they reached the final of the Ed Chynoweth Cup, where they lost in the best- of-seven series, the Estevan Bruins with four defeats in a draw. In the following three years the team from Manitoba was three times in a row against the Edmonton Oil Kings in the final, who beat 1969 and 1970 and which they lost in the 1970/71 season with four defeats in a draw and a win.

In the summer of 1978, the rights to the WHL franchise were sold to the Edmonton Oil Kings and the Flin Flon Bombers were transferred to the Northern Manitoba Junior Hockey League, where they played until 1984. Subsequently, the franchise was shortly renamed the neighboring Creighton, Saskatchewan, and resettled in Creighton Bombers in order to participate in the game operation of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League can. After the SJHL the Bombers allowed outside of Saskatchewan to operate a franchise, the team moved again in 1986 to enable Flin Flon, where it has since then played under the original name Flin Flon Bombers.
