The Flinders Highway is a highway in the Australian state of Queensland. It leads from the Bruce Highway in Townsville on the Pacific coast westward to the Barkly Highway at Cloncurry.

The highway was formerly known as National Route 78 ( N78 ), but was renamed in the course of the conversion of Australian street names in A6.

Course

The highway leads mostly through the Australian outback and it happened numerous small towns. Prevailing industry is agriculture.

Townsville and the Bruce Highway ( NA1 ) leaves the Flinders Highway to the south. After about 70 km, it bends to the southwest from, crossing the Burdekin River and reached Charters Towers, where it crosses the Gregory Developmental Road ( A7 / S63). Then he continues his path to West - southwest and crosses just before the small town Pentland the Campaspe River and the Cape River. Next his path leads him to the west. Shortly before Hughenden, where the Kennedy Developmental Road ( S62) crosses, he reached the south bank of the Flinders River, after which it was named.
