Flinn–Engdahl regions

The Flinn - Engdahl regions are a scheme for partitioning the earth after geographical and seismological aspects. For seismologists, it is now the standard for the specification of the earthquake region.

The Flinn - Engdahl regionalization scheme was proposed in 1965 by Eric R. Engdahl and Edward A. Flinn, 1974 defined and revised in 1995. The boundaries of the regions can deviate from the political boundaries. Thus, the Northern Italy region includes the Flinn - Engdahl ID 545 also still parts of Switzerland, France, Austria and Slovenia. In the correction of 1995, which took place as a result of the subdivision of larger regions and seismic zones along oceanic trenches for better coverage of these areas, one added 28 additional regions.
