Flor Peeters

Flor Peeters ( born July 4, 1903 in Tielen ( Belgium); † July 4, 1986 in Antwerp) was a Belgian composer, organist and music teacher.

Life

Peeters came from a modest background, his father was a postman, but also sacristan and organist in the home parish. So Flor Peeters was familiar from childhood with church music. At the age of eight he was the father represented occasionally. During this time he also received violin lessons. Peeters attended high school in Herentals, he was also during this time piano and organ lessons, and Solfègeunterricht the organist of the College. In 1955 he visited the Philippines, 1963, the USSR, Australia and New Zealand. In his career, Peeters gave more than 3000 concerts in all five continents.

1971 awarded him the King of Belgium the honorary title of baron and the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven honorary doctorate. After his retirement in 1968, he was organist at Mechlin and took over on behalf of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs Flemish organ courses for foreign students, "Master Class Flor Peeters " called, held every two years.
