Florentino Ameghino Department

The department Florentino Ameghino lies to the east of the province of Chubut in southern Argentina and is one of 15 administrative units in the province.

It is bordered on the north by the departments Gaiman and Rawson, on the east by the Atlantic Ocean, on the southwest by the Department of Escalante and the west by the department of the Martyrs.

The department is named after the Argentine naturalist, paleontologist, anthropologist and zoologist Florentino Ameghino ( born September 18, 1854 † August 6, 1911 ).
