Florian Froehlich

Florian Froehlich ( born December 17, 1959 in Pfäffikon ) is a contemporary Swiss artist who expresses himself in painting, sculpture, stained glass windows and installations.

Life and work

Florian Froehlich was influenced at the beginning of his artistic activity of the painters of the Ecole de Paris, including Maurice Esteve, Charles Lapicque and Nicolas de Staël, whose works he had met through his uncle, the Zurich art dealer Peter Nathan. In 1996, Froehlich from the study of medicine at the Universities of Zurich and Lausanne. His growing artistic activities developed in parallel with his professional life.

Since 1996 he lives and works in Porrentruy in the Swiss Jura. His long friendship with the Swiss artist Jacques Minala brought him to glass art. Since 2003 he is member of the Swiss Glaskünstlervereinigung Verarte.ch which resulted in several group exhibitions in the National Glass Museum of Art Vitromusée in Romont so in 2009.

From 2003 to 2009 Florian Froehlich worked on a large stained glass window project for the Catholic Church in Saignelégier ( Swiss Jura), the steles of Saignelégier, which were carried out from 2008 with the support of the Swiss Confederation in a year of construction, in close cooperation with the stained glass master Roland Beguin and the art locksmith JP Scheuner and using experimental techniques.

The concept of glass steles from Dallglas is characterized by a novel technique: You will receive the light of this Church by occupy three-dimensional merely a small part of the window area. In general, no artificial light is used in stained glass windows. Contrast Froehlich integrated artificial light: the Calvary group, three large pillars in the middle of the church, will be back at night illuminated with about 2000 watts. Each of the 21 four -meter-high stele is commented accompanied by a Bible quote from the priest Bernard Miserez. The steles of Saignelégier are a novel contribution to contemporary sacred art glass.

Occasionally plays Froehlich in his art on current topics, such as the Jurassic stage of the Tour de France in 2012. For the latter, he installed numerous walking border on wooden slats sculptures and an old dusty bike with the title finishing line. The installation was exhibited for 24 hours, on 8 July 2012. Frohlich's work has been exhibited at the Berliner Liste 2012.

Since 2010, Froehlich works regularly with the eighty - together contemporary art gallery in Berlin.
