Florian Liegl

Florian Liegl ( born 1 February 1983 in Innsbruck ) is a former Austrian ski jumper. With a height of 1.91 m at 69 kg, it was one of the greatest ski jumpers. Liegl is a singer and guitarist of the rock band Super Pursuit Mode, with which he has recorded several albums.

Career

Liegl was active for the club SV Natters Bergisel. The first appearance in the World Cup had Florian Liegl in the season 1999/2000 at the Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck and Bischofshofen. He finished here the ranks 34 and 50 his first full World Cup season 2002/ 03 was with 15 top ten finishes, eight podium finishes and a win also his most successful. His first World Cup victory on 1 February 2003 at the ski flying event at Kulm in Tauplitz was also his only. Overall, he finished at the end of the season in fifth place in the overall World Cup.

However, this power could not be reached in the following years. 2003/ 04 there was not a top - ten finish, which meant only 40th place in the overall World Cup. In the season 2004/ 05 his best result was a sixth place in Sapporo. At the end of the year he found himself at number 31 again. That's why he ended unexpectedly in the fall of 2005 for the time being his career. Reason for this decision were motivational and injury problems. He also had to take the thankless role of the spare man in Team Austria in the World Cup 2005.

As surprising as the withdrawal from the ski jumping was the announcement of the comeback in April 2006. The first World Cup appearance after the comeback took place on 3 January 2007 in the Four Hills Tournament 2006/ 07 held in Innsbruck. He competed in the national group and qualified for the main competition on January 4, in which he, however, in the knockout duel was defeated by Arttu Lappi. Overall, he finished 44th in this comeback in the World Cup. On 7 January 2007, he reached in Bischofshofen than 29 for the first time World Cup points.

In the Universiade 2007, he won gold in the team competition, together with Bastian Kaltenböck and Manuel Fettner. Nevertheless Liegl declared in May 2007 - due to lack of motivation - his final retirement from competitive sports. He currently works as a base coach in Innsbruck for the Austrian Ski Federation.

In the Four Hills Tournament 2010/11 he took with Andreas Widhölzl the part as a helmet camera Springer.
