Florida's Turnpike

The Florida 's Turnpike ( Ronald Reagan Turnpike, originally Sunshine State Parkway ) is an approximately 430 km ( Turnpike Mainline without Homestead Extension) long toll highway in the U.S. state of Florida. It runs in a north-south direction through eleven counties essentially parallel to Interstate 95, with both highways divide about 30 km a common route. The Main Line connects with the metropolitan regions of Miami and Orlando, two of the three largest population centers in Florida.

The Turnpike begins at the Golden Glades Interchange ( 25.927866693993-80.208671092987 ) in Miami -Dade County off Interstate 95, on U.S. Highway 441 and the Florida State Road 9 He leads through Kissimmee and Orlando and ends at Interstate 75 near Wildwood in Sumter County ( 28.85952101515-82.092461585999 ). The highway carries the national number of Florida State Road 91 The first section was opened in 1957; other sections were followed from 1960 to 1964.

Operator is Florida 's Turnpike Enterprises, who also run other private highways in Florida. Most of them act (such as the extension) as a feeder to the Turnpike Mainline.

Homestead extension

1971-1974 was a 77 km long supplement the Homestead Extension, built to the Turnpike south to Florida City (connection to U.S. Highway 1; 25.454551216213-80.476055145264 ) extended. The Mainline assumes the connection point to the chainage of the extension, so that there mile 47 mile follows 4. The Homestead Extension is however dedicated as Florida State Road 821 in contrast to the Main Line and the toll is paid here only electronically.
