Florida School for Boys

The Florida School for Boys was an existing 1900 to June 2011, Institute for maladjusted adolescents ( " Reform School " ) in Marianna (Florida ). The Institute for serious abuse of entrusted youth was known, this eventually led in 2011 to the closure of the institution.

History

1897 was a law enacted an institution for maladjusted young people to open up in the state of Florida. On January 1, 1900, the school took over as Florida State Reform School on their operation. Purpose of school should be to separate juvenile offenders from older and more dangerous accomplice. Management and responsibility for the school changed several times, most recently the institution since 1994 by the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice was operated. She was called from 1900 to 1913 Florida State Reform School, 1914-1957 Florida Industrial School for Boys, 1957-1967 Florida School for Boys and finally Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys.

At first were admitted both male and female students. The most recent occupants were six years old. Until 1968, racial segregation in the institution was performed. The white inmates were on the southern of the two campuses ( " South Side " or " Number 1") summarizes the colored passenger on the north campus ( " Northside " or " Number 2 "). The northern campus was finally abandoned in 1990-1991.

Investigation because of the ill-treatment of inmates have been taken from files were 31 anonymous graves of inmates are determined, archaeological investigations were able to identify 2014 55 graves to Anfgang.
