Florimond de Raemond

Florimond de Raemond (* 1540 in Agen, † November 17, 1601 in Bordeaux) was a French lawyer, conseiller du Roy en sa Cour de Parlement de Bourdeaus, counter- reformer and historian at the end of the era of humanism. Life and work

De Raemond came from an old noble family from the area around Toulouse. His father was Robert Ier de Raemond, 2e seigneur de Suquet († 1605 ), his mother, nee Marie de Saint- Gilis. The couple had three sons and a daughter. He studied at various universities in its region and was faced by a young man, an increasing number of followers of Calvinism.

De Raemond was a student of Peter Ramus, a Protestant convert who was killed during the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre. He was a friend of Michel de Montaigne and Blaise de Montesquiou. From 1570 de Raemond was a fervent Catholic apologists.
