Floris Adriaan van Hall

Floris Adriaan Baron van Hall ( born May 15, 1791 in Amsterdam, † March 29, 1866 in The Hague) was a liberal, conservative later Dutch statesman. 1853-1856 and 1860-1861 he was Chairman of the Council of Ministers.

His father Maurits Cornelis van Hall was a member of the First Chamber of the States General, and distinguished himself as a literary critic and poet. After attending grammar school and secondary school education at the Atheneum Illustre in Amsterdam van Hall studied law in Leiden and received his PhD in 1812 in Amsterdam. In 1813 he had to serve in the Legion of Honour of Emperor Napoleon afford, but escaped through Switzerland and returned to Amsterdam.

Van Hall was an attorney with the law firm of his father, until he in 1842 first as a justice, then entered as finance minister in the government ( until 1848 ). 1853-1856 he was Chairman of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs at the same time. Temporarily he had also held the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry for Affairs of the Roman Catholic Church ( but he himself belonged to the Reformed Church ). After a period as a Member of the Second Chamber 1860-1861, he was again head of government and finance and foreign minister.

His marriage to his second wife, Henriette Marie Jeanne since 1853, he was a son of the former Government Gerrit Schimmelpennick. 1856 the title of Baron, he was awarded. After leaving politics in 1861, he devoted himself to historical studies.
