Florya Atatürk Marine Mansion

The Atatürk Seevilla Florya ( Turkish Florya Atatürk Deniz Köşkü ) is a historic presidential residence and office of the state founder of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. It is located on the coast of the Marmara Sea in the district of the district Florya Bakırkoy in Istanbul.

The building was built in 1935 by the Municipality of Istanbul for leisure and recreational use. Today it is a historical museum.

Architecture

Designed in the Bauhaus style by the architect Seyfi Arkan, who received in 1935 the order of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, the Villa on 14 August of the same year was completed and the founder of the state to Mustafa Kemal Ataturk passed.

The building is built on driven into the seabed steel piles and connected to the sandy beach via a 70 m long wooden bridge. The L-shaped and single-storey villa consists of an entrance hall, a reading room, bedrooms and a bathroom. There are also staff room in the building complex. The total area of ​​the villa including the pier is 602 square meters.

A grove was built on the site of the destroyed Agios Stefanos Monastery - like garden. This grove is called " Ataturk grove Florya " ( Turkish Florya Atatürk Korusu ) and is now a public park. The Seevilla is considered as an example of the " Early Architecture of the Turkish Republic ."

History

During the time in which Atatürk stayed in the Dolmabahçe Palace, he came with the boat for a swim in the Seevilla, in the company of many local personalities. He used the Seevilla in the last three years of his life as a summer residence. In 1936 he stayed from June 6 to July 28 there. His last stay was on 28 May 1938 about six months before his death.

The Seevilla was also used for receptions and scientific conferences. Among her visitors were Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor and his wife Wallis Simpson.

After the death of Atatürk took advantage of Turkish President İsmet İnönü as, Celâl Bayar, Cemal Gursel, Cevdet Sunay, Fahri Korutürk and Kenan Evren, Seevilla Florya as a summer residence.

Museum

Due to the encroaching urban development and the resulting pollution of the sea at the site of the mansion fell into oblivion. The building was handed over to the National Palaces Department of Turkish Grand National Assembly on 6 September 1988. It was renovated and reopened in 1993 for the public as a museum. A division of Seevilla is reserved as a social institution for members of parliament.

Location and access

The museum is located west of the airport Ataturk on the coastal road of Florya direction Küçükçekmece.

It can be reached from the railway station Florya on the Istanbul- Halkalı - Kommuterlinie, which is about 500 meters away. The bus line " 73T - Yenibosna Metro Florya " of IETT also leads there.

The museum is open on all weekdays except Mondays and Thursdays 9 to 16 clock ( in the winter months 9-15 clock ).
