Floyd County (Georgia)

The Floyd County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Rome.

Geography

The County is located in northwestern Georgia, on the west by Alabama and is in the north about 60 miles from Tennessee away. It has an area of 1343 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers of water are bordered clockwise to the following counties: Gordon County, Bartow County, Polk County and Chattooga County.

History

Floyd County was formed as the 82nd county in Georgia from parts of Cherokee County on December 3, 1832. It was named after General John Floyd of South Carolina, an officer during the battles Indians and member of the U.S. Congress. The was the county seat until 1834 Livingstone, after that it was Rome.
