Floyd O'Brien

Floyd O'Brien ( born May 7, 1904 in Chicago, † November 26, 1968 ) was an American trombonist of the Chicago jazz.

He played from the early 1920s in Chicago as an unofficial member of the Austin High School transition and played among other things, in the bands of Earl Fuller, Floyd Town, Charles Pierce, Thelma Terry and Husk O'Hare. 1930/31 he played in a theater band in Des Moines and then went to New York City. There he played with Joe Venuti, Mal Hallett, Mike Durso and in the big bands of Phil Harris ( 1936-1939 ), Gene Krupa (1939 /40) and Bob Crosby ( 1940-1942 ). He took with Bud Freeman, Eddie Condon (from 1933), Mezz Mezzrow, George Wettling and Fats Waller on. In 1943 he moved to Los Angeles where he existing big band by Eddie Miller was in a short time, recorded with Bunk Johnson and played with Shorty Sherock, Jack Teagarden and Wingy Manone. He also played as a session musician and recorded with Charles LaVere and his Chicago Loopers. In 1948 he moved back to Chicago. He played with Art Hodes (eg 1955/56 ), Danny Alvin (1957 /58), Albert Nicholas ( 1959) and Smokey Stover (1959). But mostly he worked as a teacher and piano tuner.

He took only once 1945 Jump to under his own name.
