Floyd Roland

Floyd Roland ( born November 23, 1961 in Inuvik ) is a Canadian politician and mechanics. He was on 17 October 2007 to 26 Kotober 2011 Prime Minister of the Northwest Territories.

After high school Roland was trained at colleges in Calgary and Edmonton as a car mechanic, and practiced the profession in the Northwest Territories from. At the beginning of the 1990s he was elected to the city council of Inuvik and was the 1994/95 Vice Mayor of this municipality. In addition, he was Chairman of the Committee of the hunters and trappers of Inuvik, president of the Tourism Authority and coach of a local hockey team.

In October 1995, Roland was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories. From 1999 he was president of the parliamentary commission for economic development. From 2003 he served as Deputy Prime Minister for finance, health, social assistance, public works, human resources and infrastructure. On 17 October 2007, the remaining members of Parliament elected him as the new Prime Minister ( in the Northwest Territories, there are no political parties, only independent politician).
