Floyd Tillman

Floyd Tillman ( born December 8, 1914 in Ryan, Oklahoma, † 22 August 2003) is an American country musician and songwriter who was successful in the 1940s and 1950s.

Floyd Tillman grew up in poor circumstances in rural Texas. From a young age he taught himself the guitar and mandolin playing. Soon he had public appearances with his brother. In 1933 he joined Adolph Hofner 's Western Swing Band, who resided in San Antonio. Two years later he became a member of the Houston Blue Ridge Payboys. Here he sat for the first time an electrically amplified guitar. His next stop was the 1936 Mack Clark Orchestra, where he worked as a guitarist, mandolin player and singer. During this time he wrote his first song.

Career

1939 Tillman wrote the Decca label a recording contract. It took until 1944 until he succeeded with They Took The Stars Out Of Heaven, the first number - one hit. With his song It Makes No Difference Now he was less successful. He sold it for $ 300 at Jimmie Davis, who scored a hit with it (as well as later Bob Wills and Bing Crosby ).
