Fluoroacetamide is a chemical compound from the group of carboxylic acid amides and organic fluorine compounds.
Production and representation
2- fluoro acetamide can be obtained by reaction of sodium fluoroacetate Fluoracetylchlorid or with ammonia. Also possible is the production by fluorination of chloroacetamide with potassium fluoride. The compound was first described by Frédéric Swarts, but only in 1943 synthesized on a larger scale by the reaction of ammonia with Methylfluoracetat.
Properties
Fluoroacetamide is a colorless solid that is soluble in water. The toxic effect is due to the conversion after absorption into the toxic metabolite Fluorcitrat. This compound blocks the intermediary metabolism by inhibition of the citric acid cycle.
Use
Fluoroacetamide is used as a rodenticide.
