Flying Fish Records
Flying Fish Records is a blues and country music label based in Chicago. It was founded in 1974 by Bruce Kaplan, former president of the Folklore Society of the University of Chicago.
History
The label was very important because it brought the blues to a larger audience closer, while most labels, the Blues then published to turned to a small circle of initiates. Kaplan took the niche between the hits based promotion efforts of the major labels and the setting of the independent company that the music will soon find its buyer.
In December 1992, Kaplan died unexpectedly. Jim Netter, a longtime employee of the company, and his widow Sandra Shifrin led a short time the company continued, but it was soon sold to Rounder Records.
Flying Fish Records also distributes Blind Pig Records and Rooster Blues.
