Flytoget

The Express Train AS is a Norwegian railway company that performs the operation on the Gardermobanen.

History

In 1992 the Norwegian Storting decided to build the new airport at Gardermoen. From the beginning, a fast rail link to the airport in the capital Oslo was favored. In the same year the Norwegian State Railways got the contract to build a double-track high-speed line, the first of its kind in Norway.

In 1996, the NSB AS Gardermobanen was entrusted with the operation of the railway. Because of problems in the construction of the tunnel Romeriksporten the traffic after the opening in October 1998, was first performed via a bypass route. In August 1999, the tunnel was ready and the train was able to offer the full service.

The construction costs for the entire project thus amounted to CZK 10 billion, at that time, well over 2 billion DM

In 2000, the Storting decided to take the Norwegian State Railways from responsibility and handed over to the beginning of 2001, the operation in the hands of the new transport company Flytoget AS. In order to develop the transport company was complete. The infrastructure, ie track and signaling systems, electrical supply, stations, etc. are now the responsibility of various divisions of Jernbaneverket.

In December 2002, the Parliament approved the transformation of AS Express Train to a separate public company under the leadership of the Ministry of Transport. Since 2004 Flytoget AS now operates as an independent company of Norwegian trade and industry ministry.

2005 counted Flytoget AS January-June already 2.22 million passengers, more than in the same periods ever.
