FMRIB Software Library

FSL ( FMRIB Software Library acronym for ) is one of the software packages most commonly used for display ( fslview ), editing and analysis of functional magnetic resonance imaging image data. It is developed at the Oxford Centre for Functional MRI of the Brain, University of Oxford and published under a self-selected open- source license ( Semi-free software) - except fslview that is under the GPLv2. It runs under the operating system GNU / Linux and there both on the command line as well as graphical applications in many cases. Due to the compatibility of the text-based and graphical programs and the fact that the latter issue or monitor the command structure analysis with FSL are very easy to automate. Also there is a FSL interface in the software pipelined Nipype that by Python scripts provides a controlled, structured and parallelized using different software packages for the analysis of MRI data.

The strength of FSL is generally in their complexity and timeliness and specifically the independence analysis (Independent component analysis ) by Melodic for the artifact search and the analysis of resting state networks and continue fslview and tools for the analysis of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging.
