Foiano della Chiana

Foiano della Chiana is a municipality with 9377 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Arezzo, in Tuscany region of Italy.

Geography

The municipality covers 41 km ². It is located about 25 km south of Arezzo and 90 km southeast of Florence in the Chiana Valley.

The districts include Case Nuove, La Pace, Ponte al Ramo, Pozzo della Chiana, Renzino and Santa Luce.

The neighboring municipalities are Castiglion Fiorentino, Cortona, Lucignano, Marciano della Chiana and Sinalunga (SI).

History

First inhabitants of the church today were the Etruscans, zurückdatierbar to the 6th century BC. Grand Duke Leopold II commissioned in 1788 Vittorio Fossombroni from Arezzo to complete the construction of drains to make the marshes of the Chiana Valley fruitful. With the exception of the Napoleonic occupation of 1799-1814 the congregation remained until the unification of Italy, in the duchy of Tuscany and of the province of Arezzo was slammed shut.
