Fujian cypress ( Fokienia hodginsii )

The Fujian cypress ( Fokienia hodginsii, syn.: Cupressus hodginsii, Fokienia kawaii, Fokienia maclurei ) is the only species of the genus Fokienia, it belongs to the subfamily Cupressoideae in the family of the cypress family ( Cupressaceae ).

Description

The Fujian cypress is achieved by 2 meters an evergreen tree, the plant height of 25 to 35 meters and trunk diameter. The aromatic, gray-brown bark dissolves early into long strips. The crown is pyramidal. The scale-like leaves are of old trees about 2 mm long and in young trees about 8 mm long.

Use

The aromatic, light wood would previously used for manufacturing coffins. In some areas it has been used in house construction. For the production of furniture and objets d'art has also used it.

Distillation, especially root wood, gives an oil which is used in cosmetics and for the preparation of medicaments.
