Fokofpolisiekar is a South African punk rock band from Bellville near Cape Town, who sings her lyrics in Afrikaans.

History

Development and establishment in the early years

Fokofpolisiekar ( German about " Piss off, Police Car " ) was founded in April 2003. In the same year the band released with As Jy Met Vuur Speel Sal Jy Brand ( If you play with fire, you'll burn ) their first EP, and a year later with Lugsteuring ( atmospheric disturbance ) their first CD with compared to the previous could offer a better production. The popularity of the band took in their home country where Afrikaans after the end of apartheid against English has considerably lost ground rapidly. The hard and fast style and the critical texts that respond to typical South African circumstances such as when conservative Boers still strongly anchored Reformed Church, were a special feature among the protagonists of the Afrikaans rock that previously though names like John Kerkorrel and Koos Kombuis knew that already critically commented during the apartheid period, but which are not attributable to a harder style of music. Through their religion critical attitude, and various incidents to Fokofpolisekar could be sure thanks to the protests church circles a continuous media attention and radio presence.

In 2005, the EP Monoloog appeared in stereo, which sold within one year 28,000 times. The band moved here mostly from punk away towards a quieter and slower style. March 2006 Fokofpolisiekar played at Coca-Cola Colab Massive Mix Festival at the Green Point stadium in Cape Town, at the national and international stars such as Metallica and Fatboy Slim occurred. In the same year followed with Swanesang ( Swan Song ) an album that brought the punk of the first two releases and the quieter style of Monoloog In Stereo. It is so far the most elaborate arranged album of the band, which is accompanied on some tracks by Electro Muse, one consisting exclusively of women string quartet, which also follows a punk attitude. The band had already played in October 2005 in London, where a large number afrikaanssprachiger South Africans lives, she made in November 2006 with the publication of Swanesang a tour that they this time outside of London also introduced in the Netherlands and Flanders, where Afrikaans due to its similarity can be understood to Dutch. How Fokofpolisiekar aufführten on their tour diary, they had due to their lack of awareness in the Netherlands and Flanders there sometimes extremely badly attended performances play, although the Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant portrayed the band in detail in her blog.

Foundation of side projects and interim return

2007 were Fokofpolisiekar mostly on ice, the members devoted themselves to solo projects. Van Coke and Myburgh founded along with Justin Kruger on drums Van Coke Kartel and brought November 2007 their self-titled debut album out, in contrast to the lavishly produced and arranged Fokofpolisiekar album Swanesang failed deliberately straightforward. Hunter Kennedy and Jaco Venter turn founded together with the musicians Laudo Liebenberg and Hennie van Halen Aking whose English-language debut album Dutch Courage was released in February 2008. De Ridder turned commissioned compositions and productions to and maintains along with other people from the music business, the production company " Soft Light City".

Appeared in 2008 with antibiotics again an EP, was stylistically linked back to the earlier punk rock times with the. It contains an additional DVD with videos of the band. Then the band members devoted again to her own projects, Aking Van Coke Kartel and published sequel to their respective debuts ( Aking 2009 and 2011, Van Coke Kartel 2008, 2010 and 2011). This meant no decommissioning of Fokofpolisiekar, who continue to live occurred.

After four years without a new publication, Fokofpolisiekar reported back on the album Van Fok King Tasties, this is, as the name suggests, a joint publication ( split) of Fokofpolisiekar and the bands that have emerged from it, so Aking, Van Coke Kartel and Die Heuwels Fantasties. Each of these bands played three tracks for the album, two of which are acoustic versions of already released songs, the third, however, a new composition.
