Folar

Folar is a traditional Portuguese dessert. The preparation of a Folar is different depending on the region, however, the food, in principle, always a sweet yeast dough bread represents, which can be extended with various ingredients. For example, is filled with meat of Folar of Chaves.

Folar is commonly presented annually by the godfather or godmother to godson at Easter. Only when the sponsored child marries, they are exempt from these requirements. When the godchild, however on the day goes to the wedding of his godfather and brings them a piece of cake, the sponsors must pay the godchild one last time at the next Easter eating a Folar. Over time, the meaning of the word " Folar " has changed from the original name of the traditional Easter cake to designate the gift which receive the godchildren. The basic ingredients are sugar, flour, yeast and eggs. First a bowl filled with flour, in which the yeast is added fragmented. Then pressing a depression in the flour to which the eggs and the sugar are added. The mixture is then stirred well and formed into a ball. On a warm place to rise, the dough is then covered. Then you can still the bread with egg yolk and decorate.
