Folke Rabe

Folke Rabe ( born October 28, 1935 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish composer, jazz trombonist and record producer and broadcaster.

Life

Raven studied from 1957 to 1964 at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm Valdemar Söderholm, Bo Wallner, Karl- Birger Blomdahl, Ingvar Lidholm, György Ligeti and Witold Lutosławski. From 1968 to 1980 he was a member of the Rikskonserter Foundation, the organization of concerts and concert tours in Sweden devoted himself from 1976 to 1980 as the program director. From 1980 to 2000 he worked at Sveriges Radio as a producer, editorial director and program director. Since then, he has been a freelance composer.

In the 1950s, Raven trombone played in Dixieland and swing bands, and later in big bands led by Lull Ellboj, Harry Arnold and Arne Domnerus. In the 1960s, he became known as a composer of avant-garde pieces as Pièce for speaking choir, Bolos for four trombones ( with Jan Bark ) and Rondes for choir. In the field of choral music he experimented with improvisation, graphic notation and overtone singing. Since the 1980s, Raven increasingly composed works for wind instruments such as Basta for solo trombone, Tintomara for trumpet and trombone, the brass quintet Escalations and Jawbone Five for trombone and percussion ensemble. Smaller pieces he composed for the trombonist Christian Lindberg and the trumpeter Håkan Hardberger. Between 1983 and 1997, Rabe was a member of the multimedia artist ensembles Nya Kulturkvartetten.
