Folkert Meeuw

Folkert Meeuw ( born November 11, 1946 in Wiesbaden ) is a former German swimmer. He won 15 titles at (federal) German Championships and is a three time European Champion Season.

In the European Swimming Championships 1970 in Barcelona, ​​he was a member of the victorious 4x200m freestyle relay; he won silver in the 200m butterfly and the 4x100m freestyle relay. In Vienna in 1974, he won gold with the 4x200m freestyle relays on and 4x100m medley.

At the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972, he won silver in the 4x200 -meter freestyle relay. Among his greatest individual successes include the finals in the 200m butterfly at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico (6th place ) and at the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 ( 8th place). With the World Swimming Championships in 1973 Meeuw won bronze as the final float of the 4x200 -meter freestyle relay.

Today Meeuw taught sports at the Carl -von- Ossietzky - school as well as at the Wilhelm- Heinrich von Riehl School in Wiesbaden.

Meeuws wife Jutta was also an outstanding athlete swimming, son Helge won at the European Swimming Championships in 2006 the title over 50m Backstroke.
