Follicle

Follicles (from Latin folliculus, leather bag ',' shell ',' sleeve ', a diminutive of follis, bellows ' ) is in the anatomy for:

  • Ovarian follicle ( folliculus ovaricus ), spherical follicles in the ovary with different stages
  • Hair follicles ( folliculus pili or follicle ), outer hair sheath surrounding the hair root saccular
  • Dental follicle ( folliculus dentis or dental follicle ), consisting of connective tissue surrounding the tooth germ
  • Lymphoid follicles ( folliculus lymphatic or lymph )
  • Thyroid storing the thyroid hormone or colloid formed
  • Zungenbalgdrüsen ( folliculus lingual ), mucosal bumps on tongue base

Follicles also stands for:

  • In ornithology the formation site of a spring, see spring # development of the bird's feather
  • In ophthalmology an accumulation of lymphocytes in the conjunctiva, characterized by glassy center on the top of a bulging
