Fomboni

Main island

Fomboni with 16,041 inhabitants ( as of 2008) is the third largest city in the Comoros. It lies on the north coast of the island Mohéli whose main and most populous city is protected by an offshore coral reef. In good weather conditions, there is line of sight to the other main islands Grande Comore and Anjouan.

The cityscape shape simple, one-story homes along the nameless main street. The city has the only airport on the island, a small port with a simple shipyard on the beach, a post office, a bank, a covered market in the style of a mosque, a government primary school, a hotel, a pharmacy, a gas station, a branch of Alliance française, a soccer field, as well as a few smaller shops and hostels.
