Foni Brefet

Foni Brefet is one of 35 districts - the second highest level of administrative divisions - the West African nation of Gambia. It is one of nine districts in the West Coast region.

According to a calculation by 2013 there live about 13,757 inhabitants, the result of the last published census of 2003 was 11,411.

The name is derived from Foni, a former small kingdom.

Population

According to a survey of 1993 ( former census ), the largest ethnic group of the Jola with a share of around five tenths, followed by the Mandinka and the Fula. The distribution in detail: 29.5% Mandinka, Fula 9.6%, 1.2% Wolof, Jola 50.5 %, 0.5% Serahule, 1.2% Serer, Aku 0%, 5.8% Manjago, 0.3% Bambara and 1.5% other ethnicities.
