Fons Bastijns

Alfons " Fons " Bastijns ( born January 28, 1947 in Sea, Antwerp Province; † November 15, 2008 in Bruges ) was a Belgian football player.

Bastijns in 1965 in Brussels Racing White started playing football in the men's area, initially as a center forward, then from 1967 to 1980 for FC Bruges, in which he was retrained to right-back. With Bruges, he has won five Belgian championship titles (1973, 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1980) and three national cups (1968, 1970 and 1977), denied 502 Official matches and was for many years captain of the blue - black. He was also in two European Cup finals, both times under coach Ernst Happel: UEFA Cup 1975/76 (1:1, 2:3 against Liverpool ) and in Masters competition 1977/78 (0:1, again against Liverpool). Among his most famous players were Julien Cools, Roger Van Gool, René Vandereycken, Ulrik le Fevre, Georges Leekens and Jan Ceulemans.

Three times (1970 against France, in 1973 against Norway and 1977 against the Netherlands ), he was appointed to the Belgian A- national team. More inserts prevented the competition at his position, especially for the " set " Eric Gerets.

His career was (1980-1982) and finish off Dunkerque again in Belgium at KV Mechelen in France during Zweitdivisionär USL. In Mechelen, he also worked briefly as a coach; in the second half of the 1980s, he then himself again laced football boots, and indeed for the fourth division FC Duffel. Fons Bastijns, who suffered from a muscle disease for several years, died in November 2008 at the age of 61 years.
