Fons Rademakers

Fons Rademakers ( born September 5, 1920 in Roosendaal, † February 22, 2007 in Geneva) was a Dutch film director and actor.

Life and work

Rademakers, first actor in Amsterdam, learned his trade in the 1950s, inter alia, in Vittorio De Sica and Jean Renoir. As a director, he made his debut in 1958 with The Village on the River ( Dorp aan de Rivier ), for which he was nominated as the first Dutch film director for an Oscar. 1961 won Rademakers with Makkers, staakt uw wild geraas a Silver Bear at the Berlinale 1961. Followed the 1987 Oscar for The stop ( De Aanslag ) based on the novel of the same name The assassination of Harry Mulisch. 1987, the film won a Golden Globe Award, also for Best Foreign Language Film. 1989 turned Rademakers his last film, The Rose Garden, a little successful international production. He ended his career and retired with his wife Lili back to Italy. Most recently, he lived in France.

Rademakers died in a Geneva hospital of emphysema.
