Fontaine-le-Port

Fontaine- le- Port is a commune with 939 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Seine- et- Marne in the Île- de -France region; it belongs to the district Melun and the District of Le Châtelet -en- Brie.

History

Nucleus of the village, the monastery was Barbeau, founded in 1147 by King Louis VII on the banks of the Seine and 1156 moved to its later location. To the monastery developed the place " Seine- Port", today's Fontaine. Louis VII was buried here in 1180. In 1817 his remains were transferred to Saint -Denis; the monastery was demolished in 1837.
