Fontaines-sur-Grandson

Fontaines- sur -Grandson is a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Fontaines- sur -Grandson is at 563 m above sea level. Level, 6 km north of the district capital Yverdon- les- Bains ( straight line ). The village is located at the foot of the Jura, north of the valley of the river Arnon.

The area of ​​7.9 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Jura south slope. The church floor extends the Jura foothills of the Talniederung of the Arnon to the southwest over the plateau of Fontaines to the village stream of Champagne in the east. To the north, the area extends in a long narrow tip on the crest of the anticlines of Chasseron chain. Population

With 148 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Fontaines- sur -Grandson is one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 85.6 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking and 13.6 % 0.8 % speak Russian ( as of 2000). The population of Fontaines- sur -Grandson amounted in 1870 to 250 inhabitants, after which they decreased by strong emigration to 1950 to 147 inhabitants and has been fairly stable.

Economy

Fontaines- sur -Grandson was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1011 under the name Fontane. The place name comes from the numerous sources within the municipality. Fontaines- sur -Grandson came in 1011 by way of gift from the Kingdom of Upper Burgundy to the monastery Romainmôtier. Later, the Benedictine priory of Saint -Jean -Baptiste in Fontaines- sur -Grandson had rich land. The secular rule held the Lords of Grandson. After 1476 Grandson was a bailiff under the general rule of Bern and Fribourg. Only in 1730 was the place that belonged to the municipality Fiez previously, an independent municipality. After the collapse of the ancien régime Fontaines- sur -Grandson belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud.
