Fontechiari

Fontechiari is a municipality in the province of Frosinone in the Italian region Latium, located about 1,300 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012). It is located 120 km southeast of Rome and 38 km east of Frosinone.

Geography

Fontechiari is located in the hills of eastern Ciociaria. The municipality consists of the villages of Cisterna and Collemastroianni. She is a member of the Comunità Montana Valle di Comino.

The nearby towns are Arpino, Broccostella, Casalvieri, Posta Fibreno and Vicalvi.

History

In the 10th century the site was probably inhabited from Montecassino monastery with Slavic immigrants. Hence also the medieval name Schiavi. 937 the castle was first mentioned. From now belonged to the Duchy Schiavi Arpino. 1862, the town was renamed after the famous since the 18th century source Fons Clara Fontechiari.

1861 Fontechiari became part of the Kingdom of Italy. 1927 came from the province of Terra del Lavoro to the newly formed province of Frosinone.

Pietro Muscedere ( civil list) was elected in June 2004 to the mayor. His center-right alliance also with 8 of 12 seats, the majority in the City Council.
