Food technology

The Food Technology is a technical science discipline that deals with the system and the structures of the production processes of foods as well as the material processes of physical, chemical and biological, in the complete process, including the technological emission management, so the food industry, on the basis of scientific, technical, economic, environmental and social laws concerned.

The food technology research thus represents the optimal use of agriculturally produced usually raw material processing for use in foods or food ingredients with high quality and safety standards based on modern technological development, including environmental protection at the center of activities.

It applies with the present environmental and economic resources sparingly and to achieve a high enjoyment and nutritional value.

The following processes occur in the food production and includes

  • Mechanical processes such as milling, pressing and mixing
  • Thermal methods, for example heating and cooling
  • Biological processes such as the alcoholic fermentation and the use of bacteria and fungi in cheese production
  • Chemical processes, such as the coagulation of protein

Training and Study

Since the 1970s, food technology is offered as an independent study in Germany. It 's financial statements may Dipl. -Ing in the diploma course depending on the university. and Dipl. -LM -Ing. ( University of Hohenheim) and the statements for B.Sc. (Bachelor of Science) and B. Eng. ( Bachelor of Engineering, for example, at the HS Bremerhaven ) in undergraduate and M.Sc. be obtained in the Master's program. Furthermore, in Austria there are also two higher technical schools in Wels and Hollabrunn.

The study of food technology has a very interdisciplinary and uses a variety of " classical " science ( propaedeutic ), the engineering sciences, economics and various specific technical disciplines of specialization and deepening. The degree of involvement of the different disciplines varies depending on the university.

Identification of the financial statements

While graduates of the food technology studies commonly known in Germany as " food technologists ", is associated with this title in Switzerland no study, but only a so-called apprenticeship ( comparable to the German training ). For differentiation is used for graduates of colleges, the term " food technologist FH " for graduates of universities, the term " food technologist ETH ". The notation with the symbol ETH does not mean therefore that only graduates of the ETH be sought. In Switzerland there after apprenticeship as food technologists the opportunity, vocational testing BP and then the higher technical examination for federally certified. To complete food technologists.
