Foodie

Foodie is an informal term for a particular group of gourmets. There are people who ( a passion ) have a strong interest to eat and learn about food without earn their livelihood with a gastronomy -related activity in a minimal definition.

Foodies are gourmets and connoisseurs of quality, value and quality homemade ingredients. Health and enjoyment are equally important to them. Many Foodies are vegetarians. Foodies are usually late 20s to early 50s and mostly female. In contrast to gourmets who are usually considered as professionals of good food, Foodies are interested lay people who love good food and drink in its entirety, are interested in the cultural backgrounds. They follow the latest trends in the field of culinary. This includes information from the food industry, from food science and well-known personalities in these areas.

The transitions between Gourmet and Foodie are fluid.

Conceptual history

The term first appears in the Foodie 1984 book The Official Foodie Handbook by Paul Levy and Ann Barr. According to the British author Steven Poole, the term Foodism older origin and end of the 19th century by street vendors may have been used.

Criticism

The overflowing from his perspective Foodism trend is criticized by Poole, published in the October 2012 Paperback " You Are not What You Eat".
